Robotic Surgery

What is robotic surgery?

Robotic surgery is the most state-of-the-art type of minimally invasive surgery.

Similar to laparoscopic surgery, where surgery is performed through small incisions with a camera, robotic surgery allows the surgeon to use the most advanced imaging and surgical instruments that fit into a patient’s body through a series of tiny incisions.

These instruments are mounted on several robotic arms providing the surgeon maximum precision and range of motion, often much more than the human hand would allow.  Additionally, the use of a high-definition 3-D camera provides the surgical team unparalleled visualization during your surgery.

The da Vinci Xi System represents the latest in surgical and robotic technology.  Even with this latest technology, rest assured that your surgeon remains in 100% control of the da Vinci System at all times.  The da Vinci technology simply translates your surgeon’s hand movements into smaller, precise movements of tiny instruments inside your body.

With the addition of the latest da Vinci Xi Surgical System at Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center, we are now offering the most cutting-edge surgical technology right here at home in the North Country.

Currently, we are performing many general surgery robotic procedures including:

  • Cholecystectomy - Removal of the gallbladder

  • Hernia repairs

  • Colon surgery

  • Anti-reflux operations

Not every operation is ideal for robotic surgery but please ask us about this latest technology during your consultation if you have any questions or concerns.
